SlopeSense does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. All measurement logs remain on your device. The only network request the app makes is a single call to retrieve elevation data for your current GPS coordinates.
What data the app accesses
SlopeSense accesses the following on-device data to function:
- GPS location (latitude, longitude, altitude) — used to look up elevation via the Open-Meteo API and to tag measurement log entries.
- Device sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer) — used to calculate slope angle, roll, and compass bearing in real time. This data never leaves your device.
- Camera — used to display a live viewfinder behind the sensor overlay. The camera feed is never recorded, saved, or transmitted.
Elevation lookup
When you open SlopeSense, the app sends your current GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) to the Open-Meteo API to retrieve your elevation. This is the only network request the app makes.
Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather and terrain API. No account, API key, or identifying information is sent with this request. Please refer to Open-Meteo's own privacy policy for details on how they handle API requests.
Measurement logs
Measurements you save — including slope angle, roll, compass bearing, GPS coordinates, altitude, and timestamp — are stored locally on your device only. This data is never uploaded to any server, synced to the cloud, or shared with any third party.
You can delete your logs at any time from within the app or by uninstalling it.
What we do not do
- No user accounts or registration.
- No analytics or crash reporting services.
- No advertising networks or tracking SDKs.
- No sale or sharing of location data with any third party.
- No background location access — location is only read while the app is open.
Data retention
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over retention. Uninstalling the app removes all associated data. We retain nothing on our end because nothing is ever sent to us.
Children
SlopeSense is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app collects no personal information from any user.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify users through the app or the Play Store listing.
